VistaPrint Holiday Cards Buying Guide: Folded, Flat and Festive Envelope Picks
By Jake Taylor
ServicesIn a season filled with texts, emails, and online greetings, a printed holiday card can feel refreshingly personal. Add a family photo or handwritten message, and even a simple card becomes more memorable.
The right format depends on what you want to say. Folded holiday cards give you room for a longer message, while flat holiday cards put photos and greetings front and center. Then there is the envelope, which can keep things classic, add a splash of seasonal color, or carry your design all the way to the mailbox.
VistaPrint offers customizable holiday card formats along with coordinating custom envelopes and colored envelopes, making it easier to build a complete holiday mailing that feels intentional from the first glance.
Choose Folded Holiday Cards for a More Personal Message
Make room for more than a quick seasonal greeting with a folded card.
Folded formats work especially well when you want the front to carry a photo or festive design while the inside holds a personal note, family update, company message, or year-end thank-you. VistaPrint's holiday card gallery includes folded designs in different themes, orientations, colors, and sizes, with customization options for photos and text.
Folded Holiday Cards
Turn favorite photos and longer holiday wishes into a card with space to tell a little more of the story.
VistaPrint's Folded Holiday Cards collection includes photo-forward, decorative, classic, and modern designs. Current templates include formats such as 4.6" x 7.2" and square folded options, giving you room to choose a shape that suits your photos and message.
Folded cards are a strong choice for:
- Family holiday updates
- Personal Christmas greetings
- Year-in-review messages
- Client or customer appreciation
- Cards with a handwritten note inside
The extra interior space is the biggest advantage. You can keep the cover polished and uncluttered, then move the longer greeting inside.
Non-Photo Folded Holiday Cards
Let typography, illustration, and seasonal artwork take the lead when you do not want to build the card around a photograph.
VistaPrint's non-photo holiday collection includes both flat and folded designs, with current folded options appearing in formats such as 4.6" x 7.2" and 5.5" square.
These work well for:
- Traditional Christmas messages
- Religious greetings
- Business holiday cards
- Minimalist holiday stationery
- Anyone who wants a timeless card without choosing a family photo
A non-photo folded card also gives businesses a natural place for a company message without making the design feel too promotional.

Pick Flat Holiday Cards for Photos That Deserve the Spotlight
Keep the greeting streamlined with a flat format that puts the design or photograph immediately in view.
Flat cards are easy to display on a refrigerator, mantel, bulletin board, or holiday-card holder. They also work well for photo collages and short greetings where you do not need a full interior message.
5" x 7" Holiday Cards
Showcase a favorite holiday photo in one of the most familiar card sizes.
VistaPrint's 5" x 7" holiday collection includes designs for Christmas, general holiday greetings, New Year's messages, and religious occasions. Current filters let shoppers narrow the selection by photo count, style, trim, finish, orientation, color, and greeting.
Depending on the template, you can also explore decorative details such as:
- Rounded or specialty trims
- Red raised foil
- Gold raised foil
- Silver raised foil
- Glitter raised foil
The 5" x 7" size works especially well when you want enough room for a family photo or several images without creating an oversized piece of mail.
Traditional & Classic Flat Holiday Cards
Lean into evergreen holiday styling with classic typography, traditional colors, and familiar Christmas details.
VistaPrint's Traditional & Classic Christmas Cards collection currently includes flat designs in sizes such as 5" x 7" and 6" x 9". The larger 6" x 9" format gives photos, decorative borders, and greetings more visual breathing room.
These designs suit:
- Traditional family Christmas cards
- Formal holiday greetings
- Multi-photo layouts
- Business mailings with a seasonal feel
- Cards meant to stand out in a display
A classic design also ages well, which is useful when you want a card that feels festive without following a very specific seasonal trend.

Finish the Look With Custom Envelopes
Carry the holiday design beyond the card itself with an envelope that feels connected to what is inside.
VistaPrint's custom-envelope options are especially useful when you want to add a return address, logo, pattern, or coordinating design before the recipient even opens the card.
Full-Color Custom Envelopes
Extend your card design onto the envelope with custom graphics, text, or branding.
VistaPrint currently prints Custom Envelopes on 80 lb. paper stock and offers six sizes, including A2, A7, #9, #10, 6" x 9", and 4.75" x 7.5".
Key features include:
- Full-color customization
- Six available sizes
- Moisture-activated straight flap
- Optional pre-printed return address
- Templates for personal and professional mail
VistaPrint also allows all-over printing on its custom envelopes, so you can keep the exterior subtle with a return address or build a more decorative seasonal look.
Check the envelope and card dimensions before ordering, especially if the cards were purchased from another retailer.
Custom Addressed Envelopes
Skip the handwriting marathon when your holiday list stretches across dozens of names.
VistaPrint's recipient-addressing service lets customers add printed recipient addresses, return addresses, or both to eligible envelopes ordered with cards or invitations. You can upload an address list, preview each envelope, and make corrections before ordering.
VistaPrint currently offers complimentary recipient addressing on qualifying custom or white addressed envelopes and supports lists of up to 20,000 envelopes.
One important detail: recipient addressing is not available on VistaPrint's blank colored envelopes.
This option is especially useful for:
- Large family mailing lists
- Customer holiday cards
- Company year-end greetings
- Organizations sending cards to many contacts

Add Instant Holiday Color With Colored Envelopes
Set the mood before the card is opened with an envelope in a seasonal or elegant shade.
VistaPrint's Colored Envelopes currently come in five finishes: Silver Metallic, Navy Blue, Ruby Red, White Linen, and Kraft Paper. They are available in four sizes and use moisture-activated flaps.
The color is part of the paper itself rather than custom-printed artwork, and VistaPrint notes that the envelopes are designed primarily to fit its own cards.
Ruby Red Colored Envelopes
Bring unmistakable Christmas energy to the mailbox with Ruby Red.
Red pairs naturally with:
- Greenery-themed cards
- White or cream designs
- Traditional Christmas photography
- Gold accents
- Simple black-and-white holiday cards
VistaPrint's colored envelopes use fade- and scratch-resistant paper, helping the color hold up through normal mailing.
Because these are blank colored envelopes rather than custom envelopes, printed recipient addressing is not currently available on them.
Choose Ruby Red Colored Envelopes
Silver Metallic Colored Envelopes
Add a cool seasonal shimmer with Silver Metallic when you want something festive without using traditional red or green.
Silver works especially well with:
- Snowy photo cards
- Blue-and-white designs
- New Year's greetings
- Minimalist holiday cards
- Silver or cool-toned decorative details
The metallic finish gives the mailing a celebratory feel while staying versatile enough for personal or professional holiday correspondence.
VistaPrint also offers Navy Blue, White Linen, and Kraft Paper within the same Colored Envelopes collection if silver does not match your card.
Holiday cards are small, but that is part of their charm. They give family, friends, customers, and colleagues something tangible to open, display, and enjoy during a season filled with digital messages.
Choose folded VistaPrint holiday cards when you want room for a longer greeting. Pick flat holiday cards when the photo or design should do most of the talking. Add custom envelopes when personalization and addressing matter, or bring in colored envelopes when you want the festive feeling to begin before the card is even opened.
